Is Time Your Treasure? — Day 6 of 365 Leadership Blogging

Spread the love

Yesterday on my Instagram stories I asked my friends if they thought they managed time effectively and at least 66% said that if they are honest they don’t have enough time.

So why is it that we don’t have enough time? Speaking with some of my clients, the blocks of our days are filled with family and work. So why is it still 66% of those around me still don’t think they have enough time?

Devron and I looked at a number of exercises to help us decide what we needed to improve.

We first structured the time that we spent into hours of the day. Devron spends 10.5 hours a day at work and travelling, 4–5 hours outside of work spending time with me and the children and other downtime activities he likes. Wow. I spend at least 10 hours working each day which is broken into segments and the rest with family and friends, similar to Devron.

It’s a little bit overwhelming guys for Devron as most of his time is spent outside the home, although we make time to always pray and check in on each other throughout the day as that keeps us in check making sure that each other is supported.

The top line answer is YES and for the last two years, we have been working towards that plan. We have made a conscious decision to do more of what makes us happy even if it’s a small amount of time to have fun. That’s how we use our time effectively. We have become better with not running to every invitation, taking time to centre God in our lives and this little step alone has given us more time.

Like any good leader, you would want to ensure that you are aware of what you are doing with your time. If you are in an executive position at work, running your business or leading an organisation, it all amounts to the same. What are you spending your time on? Where could you make changes?

So we challenge you to look at your time and decide where the cuts can be made.
