Lessons We Learned From Team Working — Day 5 of 365 Leadership Blogging
We often look back and reflect on what works well for us to ensure that our clients get the best out of us, and on the weekend we reflected on our team working styles.
One thing we note when we work with clients is that there is always some sort of conflict in the midst. That’s good as there will always be problems but the important thing is how they are resolved.
Here is a summary of what we learnt about our team work styles:
We have different timelines
That’s cool though. He’s more productive in the night. I am fresher in the morning. There are times we don’t synchronize and this is where we need a ‘togetherness prayer’ focusing on the purpose and not our timeliness. We always pull through as we have a set of strategic goals we have both agreed to adhere to when we drift apart. It’s the art of joining forces to balance each other out.
Talk about our strengths
We give feedback and learn to appreciate our gifts and talents. For instance Devron is really great at speaking, he is quick on his feet and knowledge just flows in a really formidable way. I on the other hand are a good listener and can hear behind the actual words, of the words spoken, using this to help people to gain an awareness that they might have not otherwise seen. Our strengths go on but the key is to reframe our gifts and talents to help others.
Understanding our minds
We have different motivation levels. Here we learn how to find the art of good conversation by ensuring we are able to listen and learn from one another. We process information and act on things very differently. Again that’s brilliant because it makes our output to our clients double the value. Working in isolation is not advisable as listening to your own voice may become a little bit two dimensional.
Balance each other
Even at home we are the same. We seem to know what to do for each other and our children on a day to day basis and when one of us needs to rest the other one steps in and vice versa. It’s no big deal for any of us and when it is, we know we need to make some adjustments. I am not so great at home changes but in business I can step into any challenge and with people I lead as a matter of fact. Devron is versatile wherever he works or grows business and is learning to find the time to coordinate what we need to sustain our daily bread.
Communications
It’s really important to regularly communicate and take time moreover to pray for us. We do this as a reminder that our purpose is not just about living and working. It’s about being purposeful and keeping each other on track whilst we do so. We would be wrong to say that sometimes we don’t see each other’s point of view and emotions play out but we always go back to the drawing board and retune ourselves so that no one wins. We just play out our purpose.
