Practice the art of contentment-even with a busy schedule — Day 22 of 365 Leadership Blogging
Do you practice the art of contentment?
There’s no better reward for finding time for the things that make you feel grateful. I am really fascinated at the moment with learning how my child chooses to play and watching his behaviour without interrupting. I feel really happy that I can choose to make time for my family and fit my career around my work. The balance is lots of joy and contentment.
Over the years it’s been a work in progress.
It’s having to make a conscious choice of looking for things that I have, rather than what I don’t have.
Here are a few ways that I find effective and use when I work with my clients who are often on a journey to find their pursuit in business or their career.
Practice being grateful
There’s so much noise going on all around us. I personally have a very busy household and so this is crucial to how I work best. I like, for example, a clutter-free area. I have therefore created a space and journal about what makes me happy. In my journal today I write
I am happy that for children who love cuddles all the time, I feel like cuddles bring the best out of them.
Be aware of what you are thinking
Here is another example for those who work at home. Sometimes we can become overwhelmed with the tasks between work and home. Learn to master what you are thinking about. Take a step back and become aware of what you are thinking ( write it down if necessary) about and learn how to declutter from the unwanted thoughts that don’t add any value to your well being.
Do one thing different
Today, whilst taking a break from work, I sat outside in the garden and listened to the birds singing. I hope I don’t sound crazy but I have this picture in my mind when they sing, I sing because I am happy. I do make a point of a number of meetings, events and coaching clients so my week is always varied and different. I think the contentment I get in appreciating that I can organise my day and be very productive at the same time.
If you work for yourself, have your own business or are starting up a business, how do you declutter? How do you practice contentment?
